I'm Redd Walitzki, a surrealist painter, traveling artist, adventurer, and co-founder of Moth > Myth. For 10 years, my life was focused on creating mixed-media paintings for renowned galleries around the world. I was lucky to work with many of my artistic heroes, and get incredible chances to display my creations. But one day, it became clear that while my art was venturing to amazing places around the globe, I was only ever staring at the same four studio walls. So in 2018 I gave up everything to travel, exploring first by bus and plane, and eventually by motorcycle.
My paintings are a marker of life, commemorating a moth’s four week- long flutter in the same celebratory way they do a human being’s ninety-year journey. Using experimental mixed media techniques, the paintings swirl with hallucinatory lasercut frames inspired by the ornate Baroque ornamentation of my native Bavaria. The vivid muses in my art are influenced by the glamour of high fashion, but also explore the darker side of human impact on ecology.
For several years I have been a nomad, venturing from my beloved Pacific Northwest to more than 30 countries, finding inspiration and beauty along the way. During the lost year of the pandemic I traveled the American West, searching for solace and transformation in our incredible ecosystems. Since 2021, the journey has been by motorcycle through Mexico and Central America, traversing over 20,000 miles with my Royal Enfield Himalayan in jungles and mountains, learning about the rich cultures and biospheres of this dynamic region.
